Eiffel French Government Scholarship 2027 in France

The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has opened the France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship 2027 for international students. The Eiffel Scholarship is a fully funded award for Master’s and PhD studies at French higher education institutions, and it is one of the most popular government scholarships in France.

There is no application fee, and many French universities accept international students without an IELTS score when they have studied in English. Below you will find the 2027 timeline, benefits, eligibility and the correct way to apply.

Duration of the Scholarship

Master’s: 12 to 24 months, depending on the year of the programme you join (M1 or M2).
PhD (cotutelle / joint supervision): 12 to 18 months.
PhD (full doctorate in France, first year): up to 36 months.

Financial Benefits

Based on recent editions of the programme, Eiffel scholars receive:

Monthly allowance: about €1,181 for Master’s students and about €1,700 for PhD students.
One international return air ticket.
Health insurance.
Access to cultural activities.
Help finding accommodation, with a possible housing supplement.

Tuition fees are not paid by the scholarship itself, but many host institutions waive or reduce fees for Eiffel scholars. Check with your university.

Eligibility Criteria

Open to international students only (not French nationals).
Master’s applicants should be new to studying in France.
Age limits are set in each year’s call (in past editions: up to 25 for Master’s and up to 30 for PhD). Confirm the limit in the 2027 call.
An excellent academic record. Many institutions only nominate students with very high grades.
You must have applied to (or be admitted by) a French institution that takes part in the programme.

Eiffel Scholarship 2027 Timeline

Internal deadlines at French universities: October to December 2026 (each institution sets its own date).
Deadline for institutions to submit to Campus France: 6 January 2027.
Results: usually announced in March–April 2027.
Start of studies: September–November 2027.

There is no single student deadline for the Eiffel Scholarship 2027. Each French university or school sets its own internal deadline, most of them between October and December 2026, so check the international office page of the institution you are applying to as early as possible.

How to Apply for the Eiffel Scholarship 2027

Choose a Master’s or PhD programme at a French higher education institution.
Apply for admission and tell the institution that you want to be nominated for the Eiffel Scholarship.
Prepare your documents (CV, cover letter, transcripts, recommendation letters, and a project or study plan) and submit them before the institution’s internal deadline.
The institution selects its best candidates and submits them to Campus France.

Important: Students cannot apply directly to Campus France. Applications sent directly by students are not considered.
