The scholarship is introduced by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Agricultural & Natural Sciences (UMES SANS). The UMES scholarship is available to study for baccalaureate degree programs.
To enhance the number of graduates with baccalaureate degrees in the food and agricultural sciences and associated subjects, the program offers scholarships to promote undergraduate student recruitment, retention, and academic achievement. The land grant scholarship is funded by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Financial Award
- Each year, scholarships are given out, and they have to be used at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
- For the duration of the scholarship awards are renewable annually depending on the student’s financial need, and can total up to $15,000 for in-state students or $25,000 for out-of-state students.
- The renewal of the scholarship is dependent on maintaining a GPA of 2.8 or above and making good academic progress toward a bachelor’s degree.

High school applicants must:
- Applicants must be a U.S. citizen.
- Applicants have either applied or been granted admission to UMES( University of Maryland Eastern Shore).
- Applicant’s enrollment will begin at UMES no later than one year following the date of acceptance to UMES.
- Applicants must have a plan to pursue their career in the agricultural and food sciences.
- Applicants must be enrolled in one of the following academic majors: Agribusiness Management, General Agriculture, Environmental Science, or Human Ecology.
- Applicants must possess a high school degree or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate with a minimum 2.8 unweighted (4.0 scale) high school grade point average (GPA).
- Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 15 full-time course credits every semester toward an undergraduate degree in any of the four aforementioned majors.
College applicants (transfer students) must:
- Applicants must be a U.S. citizen.
- Applicants have either applied or been granted admission to UMES( University of Maryland Eastern Shore).
- Applicant’s enrollment will begin at UMES no later than one year following the date of acceptance to UMES.
- Applicants must have a plan to pursue their career in the agricultural and food sciences.
- Applicants must be enrolled in one of the following academic majors: Agribusiness Management, General Agriculture, Environmental Science, or Human Ecology.
- Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 (on a 4.0 scale).
- Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 15 full-time course credits every semester toward an undergraduate degree in any of the four aforementioned majors.
