Tony Elumelu Grant! The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) opened the application for all ambitious African entrepreneurs who want to make their business ideas a reality to apply to the TEF Entrepreneurship Program (TEF2024), for a possibility to win a $5,000 non-returnable seed cash.

Young African business owners are encouraged to apply for $5000 in startup money, mentorship, business management training, and other benefits if they have ideas for businesses or have been in operation for less than five years.

Across all 54 African countries, the Tony Elumelu Foundation is the leading philanthropy that is empowering a new generation of African entrepreneurs, accelerating the ending of poverty, and creating jobs. It also enhances the economic empowerment of women.

The TEF Entrepreneurship Program was launched in 2015. The Foundation has trained over 1.5 million young Africans on its digital hub, TEFConnect and also given over USD$100 million in direct funding to 20,000 young African men and women, who have created over 400,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must fulfill the eligibility criteria for the Tony Elumelu Foundation grant, given below;

  • This TEF grant program is open to citizens of all 54 African countries.
  • Africans with scalable company ideas or those who have operated a firm for no more than three years are eligible to apply for the Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Program.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
  • Only ONE business idea should be the focus point of your application. We suggest selecting the most creative and realistic business idea you have.

Not eligible applicants in the TEF Entrepreneurship Program

  • Applications for the TEF Entrepreneurship Program, either individually or in a group, are not accepted from current Tony Elumelu Foundation employees or their families, associate businesses of the Heirs Holdings Group, or UBA Group.
  • Applicants with incomplete or incorrect applications will not be eligible for this grant.
  • Applicants who have unethical and illegal company or Business Ideas.
  • Individuals who are disqualified under any previous TEF program will not be considered.

Documents Required when applying

Applicants must upload the following documents when filling out the application form on TEFConnect. When applying to the program, please make sure that the phone number you provide on WhatsApp is active.

The required documents are:

  • Valid Government-issued Identification- This applies to everyone.
  • Official Business Registration Certificate- Businesses already operational
  • Official Evidence of Business Ownership- Businesses already operational
  • Official Evidence of Directors- Businesses already operational
  • Official Consent by Partners to apply- This applies to businesses with partners

How to apply for Tony Elumelu Grant?

The application process is online and free for the Tony Elumelu Foundation grant in Nigeria. Interested applicants may register on www.tefconnect.com. 

  • Applicants must fill out the application form by answering a series of necessary questions.
  • You will receive a confirmation email of receipt after the submission of the application.

If your company is in a partnership, then a single nominee from the partnership or company may participate in the program. If you want to participate, you need each partner’s approval and an equal or majority stake.

Note: If English is not your First Language then the application form is also available in Arabic, French, and Portuguese.

TEF has not appointed an agent to carry out any portion of this program on her behalf.
